In September, the 2nd Chevrolet Global Indian Music Awards (GIMA) held at Kingdom of Dreams in Gurgaon, was all glamour and glitter.
The ceremony was hosted by Ranveer Singh & Neha Dhupia and witnessed performances by ace musicians of our country including Midival Punditz with Shubha Mudgal, Papon and Kailash Kher, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shaan, Sonu Nigam and Pyarelalji, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy with the Shillong Choir.
Stunning performances by Bollywood stars Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh and Shahrukh Khan was an icing to the cake.
Dabangg won the best film album award and its composer duo Sajid-Wajid were adjudged the best music directors. Singer Mamta Sharma won the best music debut for ‘Munni Badnam’ while Sunidhi Chauhan won the best playback singer (female) for ‘Sheila ki jawani’.
‘Pee Loon’ from Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai was named the best song while its singer Mohit Chauhan won the best playback singer (male) award and writer Irshad Kamil taking home the best lyricist award.
Paying her honour to the musicians of the industry, Priyanka Chopra said, “A hundred years from now, I will not be here but your voices and your music will live on. Thank you for giving us actors, an opportunity to look this good. But today, most definitely you are the stars and not us.”
The Global Indian Music Academy Awards is a large format, global recognition platform dedicated to Indian music, musicians and musicianship.
The Awards honour and applaud talent across Film and Non-Film Music with the vision of giving different music genres the same platform, importance and recognition.
Last year some of India’s grandest and most inspiring musical legends were feted and honoured.
