China celebrates 62nd anniversary in Dominica

On September 30, 2011, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Dominica hosted a reception in celebration of the 62th anniversary of the founding of the PRC.

Prime Minister Skerrit expressed congratulations to the Chinese government and its people and spoke highly of the significant contributions of China’s development to economic growth of the world, and particularly the Caribbean Region.

He appraised China’s path of peaceful development and expressed thanks for China’s unselfish aid to Dominica while giving a positive evaluation of bilateral relationship and all-round collaboration.

China’s ambassador Wang emphasized that, China’s achievements are inseparable from its friendly cooperation with the outside world, particularly the developing countries. Just 18 Dominica Energy minister Ambrose George chats with a Chinese diplomat days ago, the 3rd China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum was successfully held. H.E. Wang Qishan, Vice Premier of China’s State Council, announced six new policy measures taken by the Chinese government to further promote the China-Caribbean cooperation.

Below is some of Ambassador Wang’s speech: “Welcome to the Embassy this evening to attend the reception marking the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

Year 2011 is not easy for many parts of the world. The international financial crisis continues taking toll on us, underlined by the serious debt problems in Europe and USA. The ongoing political and social unrest in the Middle East has caused substantial damage to the economic development and difficulty to people’s daily life. A series of appalling atrocities happened in countries like Afghanistan, Norway and Nigeria remind us that terrorism remains a real threat, despite the elimination of Osama Bin Laden.

Under such difficult circumstances, China has been making great contribution, within its capability, to the recovery and development of the world’s economy, maintaining world peace and addressing global challenges. In doing so for several years, China gradually and steadily walked into the spotlight of the international arena, and the issues in focus are, mainly, what path of development China has chosen and what China’s development will bring to the rest of the world. Just like Dominica, China was the victim of Western colonialism, so we uphold development, which is the key to maintaining independence. Just like Dominica, China was placed on the frontier of the Cold War, so we cherish peace, which can lift us from fear and fright. Just like Dominica, China is working hard to explore a path of modernization that conforms to its conditions and the trend of the times. So I’d like to summarize the response to the abovementioned concerns: China needs development, but more does China love peace.
